Saying goodbye to DigDeeper's MUC

Today is the day that I say goodbye to DigDeeper's MUC. It started out way back in 2022 and actually was the thing that got me into XMPP in the first place. Now that I look back at these events, it actually surprises me on how far I went in that regard. My path started from a typical naive normie, being slowly replaced by a hardcore privacy fan and, in the end, I just became who I am now, by hosting different stuff myself. It goes without saying that people in the MUC were the ones who inspired me to go through this path, thus I owe many thanks to sprinklednights for helping me with the design of the site itself, trbl for hosting it and, of course, sir DigDeeper for the initial inspiration.

The other thing I can say now, based on my experience, is how drama always destroys communities AND fractions them at the same time, with "refugees" ending up at one place or another. The fate of those "places" especially if they were created by those "refugees" varies from one example to another, but that's beyond the topic. Like sir DigDeeper said in his last word about the MUC itself, we should sometimes take responsibility when we spread bullshit on the internet, while it might seem fun at first, when things escalate, it can quickly turn into dire situations. What I am leading to here is how I planned this MUC to become my "new community" of like-minded people or something like that, after I left typical normie platforms and failed to, well, bring almost of my friends with me. However, although it started out pretty decent, it began to end in the same but bad way. Spammers and drama, which they were causing, also the departure of quite a few good people marked the beginning of the downfall of the DD chat and made me even question of what should I do next if the MUC continues to be like that. Actually, if anyone played that game, that reminds me of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, where at some point in the plot Nassau, the "capital" and the "democracy" of the pirates, falls to an offensive of the british. After that, Edward Kenway is found drunk by one of his ex-"colleagues" James Kidd, who asks him if, well, that "democracy" was worth it and also if he has learned anything from that situation. Now, don't get me wrong, I've put that example earlier just because I kinda slipped in my mind, but it actually shows what happens to the places with actual "freeze peach", like someone said in Spyware MUC. They either drown in their issues or get destroyed and fractured by drama.

In the end, to conclude all this, I think that the death of DigDeeper's MUC teaches us some important lessons. They range from person to person, but the main ones are simply that people should be less ignorant and be respectful to each other, even on the internet. As for me, being a part of this MUC was a decent experience of my own and helped me grow in a few regards. Well then, RIP DD MUC now, it has been a fun and wild ride
